Mausoleum Gur-Emir is the family tomb of Amir Timur, the world-famous great conqueror Tamerlane. Here Amir Timur himself, his sons Shahrukh Mirzo and Miran Shah, his grandsons Muhammad Sultan and the enlightened Mirzo Ulugbek, and separately the spiritual teacher of Tamerlane - Sayyid Umar were buried. Gur-Emir in Persian means "Emir's Tomb".
Registan Square consists of three monumental madrasahs: Ulugbek Madrasah (1417-1420), Sher Dor Madrasah (1619-1636) and Tilla-Kori Madrasah (1646-1660). The ensemble of three madrasahs is a unique example of the art of urban planning. Once on the Registan Square, a person understands how majestic the buildings and the scale of the space around are.
One of the most grandiose mosques in the entire Muslim world, the largest mosque in Central Asia, a huge complex that, according to legend, can accommodate ten thousand worshipers, a complex that inspires awe and at the same time mysterious fear with the grandiose height of the walls and at the same time makes you tremble from its magnificence.
Not far from the Bibi-Khanum mosque is one of the most mysterious and unique architectural monuments of Samarkand - the Shakhi-Zinda necropolis, consisting of a string of elegant, sparkling blue tombs. Harmoniously woven into a lively and moving composition, mausoleums of different times are closely grouped along a narrow medieval street. Shakhi-Zinda consists of eleven mausoleums, which were built one after another in the 14th - 15th centuries.
Sometimes, all we need to be happy is to look at familiar things in a new way. Only 13 km. from Samarkand there is one special place - the village of artisans Konigil.
What is the East without carpets? From time immemorial, carpets have been a symbol of luxurious life, full of prosperity and home comfort. The Khujum factory was opened in 1992 and the production of hand-made silk carpets was launched here, using a hook and scissors - simple hand tools.
The relics of Daniel, an Old Testament biblical prophet, are buried here. Another version says that here lies Doniyar (Danier) - an associate of the Arab preacher Kussam ibn Abbas, but all opinions agree that Doniyar is a saint, whom representatives of all three world religions come to worship.
During the reign of Ulugbek (grandson of Amir Temur) Samarkand turned into one of the centers of science. Ulugbek showed himself as a talented researcher in astronomy and mathematical sciences (geometry, trigonometry), who is well acquainted with the works of his predecessors. The result of his scientific work is the so-called "New Astronomical Tables", containing a statement of the theoretical foundations of astronomy and the coordinates of over 1000 stars, these discoveries were revealed with the help of the observatory.
The mosque was built on ancient foundations, and historical written sources (and later archaeologists confirmed this) say that in the 11th century the very first mosque in Samarkand was erected here - “the location of Muslim banners”.
